Saving Seeds: Supporting Garden Biodiversity

AN 1868 HEIRLOOM HARTMAN'S YELLOW GOOSEBERRY TOMATO

April is upon us! That means it's almost time to start our gardens, whether we're in the city and growing in pots, or heaving loads of compost out in the burbs.

I'm big into planting heirloom varieties in my garden, and finding those varieties can be tricky - especially if you're someone who might grab a veggie plant at Home Depot. Go to You Are Where You Eat to read a bit about why heirloom varieties are important to me, and where you can go in the Twin Cities to find them.

i cannot wait to have a garden started at the appropriate time this 2010, and i am also in love with the heirlooms... i'm looking forward to the farm market again for them, and this year i plan on harvesting seeds. i am particularly fond of yellow tomatoes, so the one pictured here peaks my interest...
i'm on a 'catch up on reetz' blog' push right now...

I grew that yellow guy up here in MN. Easy to grow, and tasty. If you can't find seedlings locally, you can order them online. xoxo
